Diógenes Velásquez

Mr. Velásquez specializes in intellectual property and labor law and has been a specialist in both Intellectual Property matters at Aczalaw Nicaragua for more than nine years. 

 

During the last years he has been developing his professional practice in the field of Intellectual and Industrial Property Law, advising and representing leading companies in different sectors, such as fashion, food, telecommunications, financial services, food and beverages, etc., in contentious and non-contentious matters (including the elaboration of legal opinions) in many different matters, but mainly in issues related to the protection of intellectual property rights.

 

In labor matters, he has accumulated experience in labor advice on mergers, acquisitions, business restructuring processes, termination of employment contracts, dismissals, preparation of companies’ internal regulations, advice on disciplinary and sanctioning proceedings, Due Diligence of compliance and potential risks of labor nature. His practice covers not only companies’ advice, but also administrative processes before the Ministry of Labor, conciliations, approvals of internal regulations; in the same way judicial processes before the Labor Courts.  

 

Mr. Velásquez is an Attorney and Notary Public, authorized by the Supreme Court since 2012.  

His academic background includes:

  • Law School Universidad Politécnica de Nicaragua UPOLI, Law Degree, 2009.
  • Fundamental Principles of Labor Law, Individual Labor Contract, General Inspection Procedure and Oral Labor Administrative Procedure (PALO), Pan American Training Institute IPAC, 2011.
  • Post Graduate "Labor and Social Security Procedural Code of Nicaragua, with Emphasis on Oral Litigation in Labor Matters", Institute of Higher Judicial Studies, Supreme Court, 2013.

He is an affiliate member of the following national and international Associations

  • Member of ASIPI – Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property
  • World Bank (Collaborator of the Doing Business Project), Nicaragua’s Chamber of Commerce of.

  • Chambers Global has awarded him the recognition "Associate to watch in Intellectual Property" in the year 2022, 

Contribuciones: 

  • He has collaborated continuously, pro bono, for several years to the editions of Doing Business of World Bank.
